Adolph Menzel

Adolph Menzel (1815–1905) was a German Realist artist noted especially for his history paintings. He is considered one of the two most prominent German painters of the 19th century, along with Caspar David Friedrich. Menzel's fame came from his dedication to historical accuracy and his illustrations of Prussian king Frederick the Great. His works were appreciated by Otto von Bismarck and Kaiser William I, and after his death they were appropriated for use as electoral posters by Adolf Hitler
