Johannes Vermeer

Johannes Vermeer (1632–75) was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. He was moderately successful during his lifetime and recognized in Delft and The Hague. Nonetheless, he produced relatively few paintings and lived mostly in poverty, leaving his wife and numerous children in debt at his death
Dutch journalist Hans Koningsberger wrote: "Almost all his paintings are apparently set in two smallish rooms in his house in Delft; they show the same furniture and decorations in various arrangements and they often portray the same people, mostly women"
